Sue Walker is an Economic Development Consultant
for Catalyst Commercial in Dallas. An
economic development professional for over 30 years, Sue brings a unique focus
to retail development activities, having worked in a smaller community (Temple,
TX) and in two large urban environments, Austin and Dallas, TX.
After a 15-year career with the Greater Austin Chamber of Commerce
and Austin-based AngelouEconomics, Sue spent 3 years as the marketing director
with Temple (TX) Economic Development Corporation where she recruited a major
employer with 800+ new jobs, attracted 2 new retail developments, a 12-screen
movie theater to Temple Mall, and brought a 3 restaurant development project to
this city of 60,000.
For 13 years she directed retail development initiatives at the Richardson (TX)
Chamber of Commerce. She continues to
work on Richardson’s retail development in a contract directly with the city of
Richardson. Richardson, a first ring
Dallas suburb known as the Telecom Corridorâ,
is home to more than 500 technology companies.
With a population of 103,000, it has the 2nd highest concentration
of daytime employment in the Dallas area. Sue’s retail development program for
Richardson achieved recognition in IEDC’s Retail Redevelopment and Reuse Award
category for her efforts with brokers and shopping center owners. Over a
10-year period she helped spur the redevelop of over 25 local shopping centers
and attracted more than 200 new restaurants to Richardson.
Sue joined ICSC in 2000, and has served as
the public sector chair for the ICSC Alliance Program (now P3Retail) for the
State of Texas, the southern division and most recently, the Alliance
Committee. She taught the course “Retail
as a Catalyst for Economic Development” at ICSC University and served on the
editorial committee that recently updated this popular ICSC publication. She has
been a speaker and organizer of ICSC Alliance programs both regionally and
nationally.
Originally from the north suburbs of
Chicago, Sue majored in communications at Abilene Christian University,
Abilene, TX, and at The University of Texas at Austin. She was a small business owner for over 20
years and worked as a residential real estate agent prior to her economic
development career. She is a graduate of
the University of Oklahoma's IEDC Economic Development Institute.
